Printer Defaults Help

This page allows you to view or change general printer settings. Making these settings from this page is equivalent to making the corresponding settings from the printer's front panel. This means the settings are retained in the printer's memory and are overridden on a job-by-job basis by settings made from the printer driver.

User Preferences

Print Startup Page

  • On - A Startup Page prints every time the printer is reset.
  • Off - The Startup Page is not printed.

Front Panel Menus

  • On - The front panel displays all menus and allows full access to the settings.
  • Off - This limits the menu items displayed on the front panel, preventing users from changing front panel settings that may affect the prints of other users. Users cannot access the Default Printer Settings menu, Advanced Printer Settings menu, and Network Settings menu.

Print PostScript Error Information - If the printer encounters PostScript errors in the print job, it will not print the job. If you set Print PostScript Error Information to ON, the printer prints a report summarizing any PostScript errors that occur during a print job. You can use this report for troubleshooting. If you don't enter a value for this field, it defaults to OFF.

Power Saver - Displays the status of the Power Saver mode setting. The default value is ON.

  • On - Power Saver mode is set on.
  • Off - Power Saver mode is set off.

Set Front Panel Language - Select the default language for the printer front panel from the drop-down box. All available languages for the printer model are contained in the list.

Local Printer Information

Printer Name (SNMP System Name) - Allows you to specify the a printer name up to 32 characters. This can also be set from various other pages within CentreWare.

Printer Location (SNMP System Location) - Allows you to specify the printer's location up to 255 characters. This can also be set from various other pages within CentreWare.

Printer Contact (SNMP System Contact) - Allows you to specify the name of the contact person up to 255 characters for printer problems. This can also be set from various other pages within CentreWare.

Timeout Settings

These settings control when print jobs or printer features are discarded.

Wait Timeout - The value in this field determines how long the printer waits for expected data during a print job. If the printer does not receive expected data within the specified period of time after the job is started, the printer cancels the job. Enter a value in seconds. A value of 0 indicates no timeout; that is, the printer does not time out while waiting for data. The value entered must be between 0 and 65535.

Job Timeout - The value in this field determines how long the printer waits during an interrupted print job before ending the job. Enter a value in seconds. A value of 0 indicates no timeout; that is, the printer does not time out on an interrupted job. The value entered must be between 0 and 65535.

Load Paper Timeout - The value in this field determines how long the printer waits for paper to be loaded during a print job before ending the job. Click on the drop down menu and select a value from the list. A value of None indicates no timeout; that is, the printer does not time out while waiting for paper to be loaded. The default Load Paper Timeout value is 3 minutes.

Print Mode Settings

Change the settings here to adjust print speed and image appearance.

Print-Quality Mode

Select a Print Quality mode depending on your printing needs. These modes affect the appearance of your prints and the time they take to print.

  • Standard - General-purpose mode for color printing. Transparencies are always printed in Standard mode even if another mode is selected.
  • Enhanced - Produces highest-quality color prints with near photographic detail. Uses
    1200 x 600 dpi.
  • Draft - Recommended for draft or interim prints and proofreading only. This mode uses less toner than standard mode and prints 600 x 600 dpi.

Image Smoothing - Image Smoothing blends adjacent colors in low-resolution images for smoother color transitions. For example, use Image Smoothing to improve the appearance of a 72-dpi image downloaded from the World Wide Web. Image Smoothing is not recommended for 300-dpi or higher images.

2-Sided Printing

You can choose to print on both sides of a sheet of paper.

  • Disabled - Prints only on one side of a sheet of paper. Make sure to use this selection when printing on transparencies; see Paper Source.
  • Long-Edge - Prints on two sides of a sheet of paper so the image is right-side up on each side. Make sure Letter or A4 is selected as the Paper Size in the driver.
  • Short-Edge - Prints on two sides of a sheet of paper so the image is printed top-to-bottom on each side.

TekColor™ Correction

These are the color corrections designed for your printer. They include options for matching the printer's colors as closely as possible to colors on other devices, such as your computer screen or a printing press. Tip: Vivid Color is the best choice for printing transparencies. When any other option is selected with transparencies, None is used.

  • Automatic - Optimizes colors for each element (text and graphics) on the page. Best all-purpose selection.
  • SWOP Press - Specification for Web Offset Publications. Use to match U.S. press standards.
  • Euroscale Press - Use to match equivalent Imation Matchprint proofs.
  • Commercial Press - Use to match commercial Imation Matchprint proofs. Best choice for comps.
  • Toyo - Use to match commercial Toyo printing inks on coated paper.
  • DIC - Use to match Dai Nippon printing inks on coated paper.
  • sRGB-Vivid - Produces the brightest possible colors. Makes blue colors appear less purple. Use when printing transparencies.
  • sRGB-Display - Closest match to computer screen colors.
  • SNAP Press - Specifications for Non-Heat Advertising Printing. Use to match standards for printing on uncoated and newsprint papers.
  • None - No color correction applied. Use with PANTONE colors or when no correction is desired.
  • Black and White - Prints all colors as gray scale.

Paper Source - Select the tray you want to print from, or allow the printer to select the tray automatically.

Note: If you have multiple trays, the printer uses the upper tray until it is empty, moving to the other trays as needed.

  • AutoSelect Tray - The printer takes paper from a tray loaded with the paper size currently selected in the driver's Paper Size field.
  • MultiPurpose Tray - The printer takes media from the multipurpose tray.
  • Tray 1 - The printer takes media from the upper tray.
  • Tray 2 - The printer takes media from Tray 2*.
