Changing your printer's EtherTalk/TokenTalk zone (optional)
There are three ways to change the printer's zone:

Changing the printer's zone using PostScript utility files

To change the printer's EtherTalk or TokenTalk zone, edit the appropriate PostScript language file and send it to the printer. The files are included with your printer's network utilities software. To change the EtherTalk zone, use the file Set EtherTalk Zone; to change the TokenTalk zone, use the file Set TokenTalk Zone.

  1. Open the file using any text editor. (To ensure that the file remains pure PostScript, it is recommended that you use a "plain text" editor such as TeachText or SimpleText, rather than a word-processing application like Microsoft Word. If you must use a word-processing application, make sure that you save the file as plain text.)

  2. Find the line:

    (My Zone Name)

Replace the text inside the parenthesis with the zone name you want to use.

  3. Use the LaserWriter Utility to send the PostScript file:

    1. Select the printer in the Chooser.

    2. Locate the LaserWriter Utility, which is included with your printer's network utilities software.

    3. Double-click on the LaserWriter Utility icon.

    4. From the Utilities menu, select Download PostScript File. Select the name of the file you want to send, then click the Open button.

    5. At the prompt Save PostScript output as: you are prompted to name the log file that the LaserWriter Utility creates for PostScript errors. Use either the default name given in the edit box or type in a new name. Click Save to send the file to the printer.

    6. If the printer reports no PostScript errors, the LaserWriter Utility displays a dialog box. Click OK in the box to continue.

  4. Reset the printer. (See Resetting your printer.)

The printer changes its zone name and dynamically changes to the new zone (the printer appears on the new zone as if the printer were just turned on).

Note: If there is already a printer with the same name in the new zone, the new printer appears on the network with a number added to the name. See
Notes regarding printer names.
