Serial Configuration for HP-UX 9.x and 10.x

HP-UX 9.x
The following procedure describes how to use the H-P System Administrator Manager program (SAM) to configure a workstation running HP-UX 9.x to support a color PostScript printer.
- Log in as root on your workstation.
- From the command line, typesam.
- Highlight Printers and Plotters from the menu, then press Return or click on Open.
- Highlight Printers/Plotters from the menu, then press Return or click Open.
- Click on Actions and select menu item Add Local Printer/Plotter, then select sub-menu item Add Serial (RS-232) Printer/Plotter.
- For Available RS-232 Cards, select Built-in RS-232 Interface, or select the appropriate RS-232 card.
For Printer Name, enter the queue name (this can be anything).
Click on the Printer Model/Interface button, select postscript from the list, then press Return or click OK. Note that the next field, Printer Device File Name, is automatically filled in.
Enter information for Printer Class if necessary.
- Click OK to process the information.
To modify the serial port settings, return to the main SAM start-up window.
- Highlight Peripheral Devices, then press Return or click Open.
- Highlight Terminals and Modems, then press Return or click Open.
- Click on Actions, and select menu item Add Terminal.
- Select the appropriate serial card.
The Port Number is automatically selected.
For Speed (Baud Rate), click on the appropriate value that matches the printer's speed (9600 is the printer default).
- Click OK to process the information.
To exit SAM, click on File and select Exit.
HP-UX 10.x
The following procedure describes how to use the H-P System Administrator Manager program (SAM) to configure a workstation running HP-UX 10.x to support a color PostScript printer.
- Log in as root on your workstation.
- From the command line, type sam.
- Double click on Printers and Plotters.
- Again, double click on Printers and Plotters.
- Click on Actions and select menu item Add Local Printer/Plotter, then select sub-menu item Add Serial (RS-232) Printer/Plotter.
- For Available RS-232 Cards, select Built-in RS-232 Interface, or select the appropriate RS-232 card.
For Printer Name, enter the queue name (this can be anything).
Click on the Printer Model/Interface button, select postscript from the list, then press Return or click OK. Note that the next field, Printer Device File Name, is automatically filled in.
Enter information for Printer Class if necessary.
- Click OK to process the information.
