System requirements

• A Tektronix color printer equipped with a PhaserShare Ethernet card or a PhaserShare Token Ring card.

• Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 3.1, 3.11 (or later), or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 installed on workstations with standard memory. The workstation must be at least an 80286 PC.

• Novell NetWare 2.x, 3.x, and 4.x networks with shells 3.26 or above and IPX version 3.10 or above.

  Note: To determine your IPX version, use the NetWare NVER command. The IPX version is not shown when using the IPXODI ? command.

• PhaserShare Administrator only:
  • Supervisor equivalent on all NetWare 3.x file servers to be configured

    and/or

  • Supervisor equivalent (ADMINISTRATOR) on all NetWare 4.x networks to be configured

• Standard install. This is the recommended installation method; it copies the necessary files to your workstation's hard disk. All program features are installed automatically using standard settings. There is nothing special you need do for a standard install; simply follow the on-screen instructions.

• Custom install. This method allows you to set preferences and assumes fewer defaults than the standard install.

• Network install. This method allows you to specify a drive and directory on a NetWare file server in which to place the files needed for the installation. You can then install the software from that directory to designated workstations using the standard install.

  The drive you specify should be a NetWare shared drive. You must have write access to the directory you specify.

1. Start Windows on your workstation.

2. Insert diskette 1 into your computer's disk drive.

3. Open File Manager (Windows 3.1) or Windows Explorer (Windows 95) and display the contents of the diskette.

4. Run SETUP.EXE: double-click the file SETUP.EXE (Windows 3.1) or on the Setup icon (Windows 95).

5. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

6. When the install program has finished copying files and setting up the software, a dialog box appears, asking you if you want to view the Readme file.
   • To read the file, check the box and click the Finish button.

   • To skip reading the file, click the Finish button.

Note: For PhaserShare Status Monitor installations: If your computer does not have a speaker driver installed, the PhaserShare installer automatically installs a speaker driver for your PC, even if your computer does not have a sound card.

Note: The PhaserShare distribution diskettes are read-only. You will not be able to save the SETUP.INI file back to the distribution diskette. Work on a writable copy of the diskette.

1. In the Startup section of the file, enter one of the following:
   Install=0 (This installs only the Status Monitor)

   Install=1 (This installs only the Administrator)

   Install=2 (This installs both Applications; this is the default)

   Save the file. If you are using a full-featured word processor, be sure to save the file as text-only.
